Shortie
It's no secret that California dishes out some of the best and the most popular music that
people across the states crave. It's also evident with recent chart toppers that Sacramento
of all cities is spitting out bands like pez. Sacto's latest offering, Shortie, however, is
not just another group in the crowd. Matching up with the likes of such chart toppers like
the Deftones and Papa Roach, they are determined to make themselves heard: and they do so
with a powerful intensity that is near impossible to ignore.
It's been just over two years now since Pogus, Matt Tool, Kyle Klima, Joor Bol, and Justin
Halladay (joining the band in 1999 after original drummer Aaron Creechley was out) came
screaming onto the stages of popular clubs all throughout California. With pain-filled
emotional vocals provided by none other than the band's frontman, Pogus, Shortie's mixture
of power and delicacy intertwine to create a sound like no other. With a myriad of guitar
melodies from Joor and Matt, the interaction between the two guitarists sounds similar to a
High School Prom gone sour. With the pounding rhythmic basslines of Kyle and the driving
force of Justin's drumming, the end result is an intoxicating essence that leaves its
listener waiting for the next hit.
