Larry Meistrich
Special Guest Speaker
Larry Meistrich has won numerous awards as both a businessman and a film producer. He founded The Shooting Gallery, the first independent studio, and also Film Movement, a distribution company that brings award–winning first run movies to enthusiasts regardless of their location. Among his many business successes, Larry is a recipient of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. As a film producer, Larry is perhaps best known for the Academy Award winning Sling Blade, starring Billy Bob Thornton, the Academy Award nominated You Can Count On Me, starring Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo, and Croupier, which launched the career of Clive Owen. At the time, the purchase of Sling Blade by Miramax broke all records in independent film distribution. Larry’s newest business venture is Nehst Studios, a content distribution company releasing filmed entertainment worldwide in theatres, on home video, online, in all forms of television, in emerging formats, and in all ancillary media. With a large tax-based fund and several innovative online and regional services designed to find talent, identify viable projects, and train filmmakers in the dynamics of production and distribution, Nehst Studios is set up to break down the traditional barriers that have existed between talented individuals and the film industry. In keeping wit this approach, Larry will hear filmmaker pitches as part of Friday’s Festival schedule (details below).
